The character of the dad on "Drake and Josh" is played by performer Jonathan Goldstein. Like a great number of well established actors before him, Jonathan waited tables for ten years off and on to support himself while he sought out a stable acting role. The difference here is that while Jonathan was waiting those tables he was one of the rare servers who actually did get noticed! The percentage of that really happening is so low that many servers remain at those places for years before throwing in the towel or shooting in a different direction. There are a few waiters and waitresses who do get discovered, but it is seriously very rare.
Dan Schneider is the producer of "Drake and Josh" and during his viewing of the audition tapes and selecting Jonathan for the role, Dan's wife was actually the one who recognized their former waiter! So it was complete chance ( along with loads of talent ) that landed Jonathan's new role. Not for his efforts as a waiter. But it couldn't have hurt that he had a major producer as one of his regulars! Just goes to show you, no matter what job you choose to do, do the best you can because you never know who may take notice. Or at least remember that you never know who that random stranger you meet really is, so spread the smiles as often as you can!
Jonathan Goldstein grew up in New York and studied at the New York University and Northwestern University. Before being discovered by Dan, he moved to Hollywood for his role on "All My Children". He was also on a t.v. show called "once and Again" and he had a part on "Buffy the Vampire Slayer".
Jonathan is the perfect pick to play Drake and Josh's father. He has that Fatherly presence. Jonathan Goldstein is also a warm hearted man who just seems to have that magic chemistry with the kids.
